Steel Ribbons, a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, was founded through a generous donation from the Estate of Dr. Kim to the GynOnc Family CARE Center at Magee-Womens of UPMC. Dr. Kim came to the United States in 1995 from Korea and quickly earned a PhD in Biochemistry and Biophysics. In Pittsburgh, she worked as a dental hygienist until completing a DMD at the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Dental Medicine. Janice was very proud to be a clinical instructor in Dental Hygiene at Pitt and worked in this role throughout her long battle with ovarian cancer.
